"Thunder of Horses" and "Enchantment of Dreams" Puppets on Display in May Scenic
Designer Margie Jervis will exhibit props, puppets and art that were
used in her design for the Washington National Opera's productions of
"Thunder of Horses" and "Enchantment of Dreams," written by composer
Carey John Franklin and Michael Patrick Albano for the Opera's
children's education program. Margie has been the scenic designer for
Creative Cauldron's Learning Theater productions and will join the
organization as a teaching artist this summer for CC's Arts Adventure Camp program. Margie's
career spans 30 years of art making, beginning with fine art exhibited
internationally, to theatrical design. Her journey in theater began on
the west coast as a Scenic Painter and Sculptor at both the Seattle
Repertory Theater and Seattle Opera in the 1980s and 90s. The latest
decade features design assisting for Seattle Opera and The Washington
National Opera. She was recently one of nine local artists to be
awarded a Strauss Fellowship Grant from the Arts Council of Fairfax
County. The fellowships support and encourage Fairfax County’s finest
creative artists in all disciplines and recognize professional working
artists’ achievements and their demonstrated history of
accomplishments; they promote artists’ continued pursuit of their
creative work.
Creative Cauldron will be hosting a "Meet the
Artist" reception for Margie from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm at ArtSpace Falls
Church on May 7, in conjunction with the First Friday events in the City. Come
and meet this extroardinary artist and learn more about Creative
Cauldron's programs, performances and classes too!
Falls Church Arts will
be continuing "Scenes in the City" Plein Air Festival activities, with
displays of work by artists who attended the FCA plein air workshops in
April. For those still wishing to participate in the festival official
plein air stamp available on site this evening.
