Arts Adventure Camp
Now in its 9th year, Creative Cauldron's Arts Adventure Camps combine the performing and visual arts with an exploration of the natural world. *In our signature three-week camps,  a nature-based theme is used to nurture a fun and engaging learning community.
Campers work with an amazing group of professional teaching artists (see our Artistic Circle) who guide them through activities in drama, music, dance and visual art. They explore the natural world through daily treks to local and regional parks that include visits with naturalists and environmental educators. They also enjoy
fun afternoon swims at local pools.

Science, myth, folklore and music all play a role in the development of original stories and works of art based on the theme.  All of the inspirations and ideas that bubble up throughout the session are gently shaped into an original show which is presented for the public on the final days of the session during lunchtime performances in the ArtSpace Falls Church.

Creative Cauldron also offers one week sampler camps and a two week Musical camp (new this year).  The nature-based connection still orients the program, but the performance is replaced with a less formal sharing with family and friends.

2010 Camp Sessions and Themes

June 28 through July 2  Arts Adventure Sampler One
For those that can't join us for a three week session, this sampler camp is the perfect way to introduce campers to the Creative Cauldron experience. Drama, music, movement and visual art along with lots of time to explore the great outdoors.

*July 5 through July 23  "Here Comes the Sun"

Without this fiery orb, there would simply be no life on earth. Ancient civilizations of both east and west, explored this truth through myth, creating magical tales of sun gods and goddesses from the storybook above us. But what sun characters and stories will we create in the age of global warming?  And can we use our imagination and technological know how to tap the solar “power” that our ancestors revered? Make sure to bring your sunglasses, because this session is sure to burn bright with creative ideas, and exciting scientific discoveries.  FINAL PERFORMANCES JULY 22 & 23 AT 12 NOON

*July 26 through August 13 "In Search of Hidden Treasures"

Why are diamonds so prized as jewels or silver and gold so highly valued? Gems and minerals have captivated human imagination for thousands of years. This session, we’ll go digging for hidden treasure, unearthing the fascinating folklore surrounding these glittering stones and colorful rocks.  Can they turn a king to stone, make a wish come true, or tell the future? Do they have healing properties or medicinal benefits? Our answers lie deep below the surface, somewhere between history and myth, science and superstition.  Let the hunt begin! FINAL PERFORMANCES AUGUST 12 & 13 AT 12 NOON

August 16 through 27  "A World of Music"
This two-week session will replace our "Digital Kids" camp this year but for those who love to be on camera...don't despair.  We'll take a look at how the natural world of sound finds its way into the world of Broadway, pop, traditonal and classical music. Then, we'll create our music (and musical instruments!) and an original
music video.  Perfect for music lovers of all ages.
